At the Lancashire Telegraph Business Awards, held at Ewood Park in November, we received the Training Award for 2007. We are hoping to use this as a springboard for expansion. Since taking over in June 2002 the company has instigated a training plan and undertaken a large amount of training. The business has grown rapidly in the past five years and a key factor in this was investment in training programmes for workers.
As well as ensuring that staff meet the latest Health & Safety requirements, we work with East Lancashire colleges to enrol apprentices and sponsor them while they study a Modern Apprenticeship to NVQ III over three years. We have already sponsored four apprentices who between them are now qualified plasterers, joiners and brickies. Three more apprentices are on due course to become qualified tradesmen.
Admin Staff working at our base in Black Abbey Street offices can also access further training to upgrade their IT and accountancy skills.
Gary Clarkson, Managing Director, said on the night "This award is a testament to the company's hard-working staff . We have a very loyal workforce that always backs the company which is a key factor in helping us grow. Hopefully, this award will help raise the profile of the company and hopefully people with realise that we are a serious company and take pride in what we do."
Christine Clarkson, a company director stated "Training is something that is really important to us and we are always looking to improve and have recently expanded the building so we will be looking to increase the business as well as the number of staff."
