Value: £540k                 Client: South Lakeland District Council

Rosslee was awarded the contract to upgrade electrics at Abbott Hall for new electric radiators, fire alarm systems, and to upgrade lighting to the main gallery areas for South Lakeland District Council.

New flooring and UV window film was applied to the main gallery areas, two chair lifts on the upper floors were replaced, and the existing passenger lift was serviced so remains suitable for use. The full hall was decorated in a new colour scheme once all new cabling had been installed and patch plastered. Additional flood defenses were added to lower areas of the building, as it is prone to flooding due to the close proximity to a flowing water course.

Working on a listed building is often challenging due to the existing structure being of historic value, on this contract, working around millions of pounds worth of art works while restoring the building added further complexity. We successfully managed and organised access with the client to certain rooms to ensure safe access for works to be done and additional works protected so no damage was done during the process.
