World Horse Welfare has four horse rescue and rehoming centres in Britain, our project took place at the centre based at Penny Farm in Blackpool and involved building a large extension expanding the existing welcome centre to facilitate a new café, meeting space and a gift shop to attract additional visitors.
The existing building on site was renovated to allow a new layout; it was stripped back and new timber stud walls were put in. The extension was built at the rear of the centre with a steel portal frame, insulated wall and roof cladding panels, aluminium door and bi-fold windows. Roof lights were installed in the link corridor to allow a natural light flow into the building and a new plantroom was also created to store mechanical equipment.
Internally a commercial stainless steel kitchen was fitted for the new cafe facilities, a new bespoke desk was built within our joiners workshop for the reception area, all of the walls were plastered throughout and the rooms were decorated to a high specification including floor finishes. Externally a new outdoor seating area was created overlooking the main horse stables.
Project value: £475k
I would like to say a big thank you to the team at Rosslee who did a fantastic job to complete our extension ahead of time and budget. They were very efficient throughout and kept me well informed to ensure that we were all happy with the final build. They have produced a quality building and were a pleasure to work with – I would highly recommend them
