Rosslee were appointed by Lancaster Maloney on behalf of the board of governors and Derbyshire County Council to construct the new build of several classrooms, staff room and link corridor to the main building with additional toilet facilities. This was to replace a temporary modular building.
Groundworks were a mixture of traditional strip foundations and concrete raft where the new development linked to the existing building. An extensive drainage scheme was introduced and existing services of electrical and gas were adapted to serve the new area. Bison beams and block installed to ground floor, which was overlaid with damp proof membrane, insulation and sand/cement screed. Periscopic ventilation provides airflow to the floor void.
This project was a traditional build in the form of masonry cavity wall construction. Pitch faced stone was carefully sourced to ensure the exterior was in keeping with the existing building.
The roof was a mixture of trusses to form the pitch roof, which was finished in Spanish slate while timbers form a flat roof area on the link building, which is covered in a Bauder system.
Windows, doors and curtain walling were installed to the external elevations, in most cases these were floor to ceiling, to allow in plenty of natural light and capturing the stunning local countryside views. All windows were fitted with trickle vents, safety restrictors and roller blinds to finish.
Staff toilets including shower facilities, unisex cubicles and disability compliant facilities.
An extensive mechanical and electrical package included a state-of-the-art ventilation system, new data cabinet, independent boiler and installation of all dado trucking AV equipment as part of the new ‘Teacher walls’.
Internally, walls were drylined, plastered and decorated, finishes include veneered fire doors, kitchen with integrated appliances and bi-fold acoustic partition for room versatility. Floor covering in a mix of carpet tiles, vinyl, and matting with suspended grid and tile ceilings.
External work comprised raised oak planters, seating area & finished with macadam surfacing.
“We are delighted with the final building.”
