Value: £3m                      Client: Our Lady’s High School

Rosslee were awarded the D&B contract for a two-story new build education block in Manchester which incorporated new teaching facilities, dining facilities, library, chapel, SEND unit and external works.

At the outset the project was over budget and we were required to value engineer the design in order to reduce construction costs but maintain the employers vision and requirements.

The standalone building comprised of piling, PCC hollowcore ground and first floor, structural steel frame, structural metal deck with felt coverings and SFS external wall cladded with composite boards.

The scope of works also required the specialist design of a timber glulam balcony structure and a ‘living wall’ in which we worked closely with specialist subcontractors to provide a compliant and innovative design. We employed architects, structural engineers, M&E engineers and other consultants as part of our team and worked closely with planning and building control.

Internally there was a full M&E package and plant room installed, fully decorated to specification with various floor coverings, lighting, fixtures and fittings installed.

The contract took place while the school remained live and operational. Taking into consideration major service alterations, the school moved into the building at the agreed time and within budget.
