Rosslee Construction were awarded the contract to form a new Prep Building, so that all pupils of Westholme School could attend the same site, instead of across two.

The scope of works was for part demolition the existing single story structure art block, then extend the existing footprint with the construction of a new two story building including the refurbishment of the existing adjoining music block. This building then formed the additional classrooms, library, and facilities.

Part of the new structure consisted of a steel frame, but predominantly the building was constructed with traditional masonry cavity walls. Both pitched and flat roof areas were built including a roof light in the link corridor. Aluminium windows were fitted throughout along with internal and external doors.

There was an extensive Mechanical and Electrical design incorporated within the scheme, including a mono-draught ventilation system and a platform lift. Works included a full finishing package internally, from plastering to decoration including all floor coverings and internal joinery works.

During the works, the students helped place a time capsule within one of the walls with a plague to signify where it is located for future discovery. We also improved the outdoor woodland area access.

In November, the school were delighted to welcome a plethora of guests for the official Opening. 75 dignitaries and supporters who have special links to Westholme and the local community attended. Amongst the guests were The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, and the High Sheriff of Lancashire.

“We are so pleased with the build, and everything you and your team created.”
