Rosslee were appointed by Mansfield District Council to renovate the Grade II* Listed Mansfield Town Hall which included extensive internal alterations and refurbishment. The project entailed transforming the hall which included a large amount of unsuitable unused space into a modern and legally compliant building with plenty of lettable office space, whilst protecting the buildings fabric, architecture and heritage.
The project involved refurbishing the main entrance foyer, the chamber and the remainder of the rooms across 3 floors, creation of a link corridor, a full mechanical and electrical upgrade, installation of security, fire protection and the installation of new lifts to ensure the building is now accessible to wheelchair users.
Whilst constructing the foundations of the link corridor we accidentally uncovered an underground passageway from an ancient police cell creating a route for prisoners to the old courthouse! This history passage was of course fully protected before continuing with construction. We also uncovered some historic steel beams buried in the building fabric whilst installing the passenger lift which were also protected.
Due to the building age, most of the requirements conflicted between upgrading the building to ensure it complied with building regulations while posing no damage to the building fabric and protecting items to comply with listed building consent conditions.
Project value: £1.3 Million approx.
