Rosslee were awarded the contract for the full refurbishment and redevelopment of Springwood. The project involved extensive works to both the main house and the neighbouring barn, with a particular focus on modernising the property while respecting its original character.
A key challenge of the project was the structural works and the careful propping required to the rear elevation and floors. This included the removal of the existing back wall of the house to allow the installation of the new structural steels. The team had to carefully manage and coordinate the installation of new structural steelwork to create a contemporary open-plan living area. Photo of the extensive propping system illustrates the scale and precision of these works.
Much of the scope focused on the ground floor of the main house, which underwent a full refurbishment ensuring a high standard of finish. Large full-height aluminium glazing with motorised openers was installed to bring the inside out, creating a cohesive living space overlooking the River Hodder. Aluminium windows were installed throughout both the house and barn, including anti-solar glazing to improve comfort. The bedrooms were fully redecorated, giving the living spaces a bright, modern feel.
The existing barn, being an older structure, was underpinned, and new floor and roof structures were installed alongside stabilisation of external walls. Thermal efficiency was also upgraded throughout the property. The driveway layout was altered and re-surfaced to improve access around the property.
Overall, the project successfully delivered a significantly improved and modernised home while preserving the charm and character of Springwood.
